Hey mate,
Just found your blog- good to see someone else interested in keeping carnvores too!
Have you ever kept you carnovourous plants outside all year round?
I created a mini barrel bog garden last year- and been really chuffed with the results- as previously i found keeping the sarracenias watered over the summer a impossible task to keep up with!
I wondered if you knew in my barrel i dont have any drainage hole sin the side of the barrel so the water level is pretty high- will this damage the plants over winter to be kept to waterlogged? Or could this be considered almost natural and what they would experience in the wild?
Cheers mate

Hi! Thanks for the encouraging words! I hold my hands up regarding the pictures of my bog garden, thought I lost all my photos on my pc....but luckily I found a backup of them, so I'll upload them either this eve or tomorrow after work! Promise!
Regarding your Sarracenia's: I personally keep them just moist during winter, as dormancy sets in. Don't let them dry out though as they will die. Depending on what variety on your sarracenia's are dictates their requirements really. Some have drier winter periods, while others have similar winters to ours. I would think keeping them water logged could induce root rot, and/or a weak root system. Also just a thought, if there is frost a waterlogged bog could kill of your plants as the roots would freeze.
During the summer months I often seriously contemplate getting a R/O filter setup fitted in my kitchen!
Hope this helps :)
Matt
